Satellite Tag Deployed on February 20th!
Southern Resident Killer Whale Satellite Tagging
On December 8, 2011 NOAA Fisheries’ Office of Protected Resources Division issued a scientific research permit amendment to the Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC) to authorize satellite tagging of up to six Southern Resident killer whales. On February 20, 2012, the first satellite tag was deployed on an adult male, J26, in the Strait of Juan de Fuca as part of a NWFSC research cruise.
